Google Tag Manager (GTM) Tags
The Google Tag Manager (GTM) can display any combination of tags you require. Some tags are built-in to the GTM system and others you may be required to provide yourself.
This article briefly discusses how to go about adding tags to the GTM and getting your desired tracking systems working.
Aurora Commerce does not support 3rd party software or services and go for support using the GTM user interface, please contact Google.
All information provided in this document is provided without support and is for reference only.
Google Enhanced Ecommerce
The example GTM integration provided in the Aurora Demo Front-end Templates is fully integrated with the GTM's Enhanced Ecommerce tagging system.
If you wish to make use of this tracking service, then please follow all steps described in the Google Tag Manager (GTM) Guide and then see the following guide for help configuring the Tags in your GTM Container.
https://developers.google.com/tag-manager/enhanced-ecommerce#checkout
The examples included in this document are already featured in the Aurora Demo template described in this guide. You only need configure the Tags in the GTM as described in the Guide above.
Under each section (e.g. "Measuring Views of Product Details") you will find a 'hidden' section labelled "See the Tag Configuration for this Example". This is what describes the settings required for each of the Tag to work in the GTM with Aurora.
Firing Rules
For help configuring the Tags, please see the following table detailing what rules should be used with each Tag.
Name | Type | Rules |
---|---|---|
Basket Product Added | Universal Analytics | Event Basket Product Added |
Basket Product Removed | Universal Analytics | Event Basket Product Removed |
Checkout | Universal Analytics | Page View All Checkout Pages |
Checkout Option Changed | Universal Analytics | Event Checkout Option Changed |
Order Complete | Universal Analytics | Page View Checkout Order Complete |
Product Clicks | Universal Analytics | Event Product Click |
Product Details | Universal Analytics | Page View Product Details Page |
Product Impressions | Universal Analytics | Page View Product Listing Page |
Product Impressions Ajax | Universal Analytics | Event Product Impression |
Promotion Click | Universal Analytics | Event Promotion Click |
The rules described above should be used instead of the values described in Google's guide under "Firing Rule". E.g. you should set the "Firing Rule" for the "Promotion Click" Tag use the "Event Promotion Click" rule and no other.
Tracking ID
When adding your Tags, you will be prompted for a "Tracking ID". This is sent to the GTM by Aurora for you and so you should use the following value for this: {{ga tracking id}}
If you prefer you can simply set your Google Analytics Tracking ID here instead. This means that Aurora will not be able to update this code should you ever change it in the Aurora Back-end.
Setting your Google Analytics Tracking ID
To make use of any of the Google tracking tags via the GTM you must set the Google Analytics Tracking ID in the Aurora Back-end under Store > Settings > Feeds > Google Analytics. This value is then sent to the GTM for use with all your tagging systems.
