Aurora Commerce is committed to ensuring your store is optimized for these new AI shopping channels, with built-in features that require minimal technical effort to implement.

LLMs.txt Support

Aurora includes built-in support for the LLMs.txt standard - a new web standard introduced in September 2024 that helps AI systems better understand your store's content and product catalog.

What is LLMs.txt?

LLMs.txt is a standardized file that provides AI systems with a structured, easy-to-process view of your website. Similar to how robots.txt helps search engines understand your site, LLMs.txt helps AI assistants navigate and comprehend your store's content within their context window limitations.

This file uses markdown format to organize information about your store, how to navigate it and what it's content is for.

By implementing LLMs.txt, your store becomes more accessible to AI systems, potentially improving how your products appear in AI shopping results and recommendations.

Aurora's LLMs.txt Support

Aurora comes with built-in LLMs.txt support for all stores! Our implementation is designed to be hassle-free while giving you complete flexibility if you need it.

When you use Aurora, your store automatically gets a dedicated /llms.txt URL (for example, https://demo.auroracommerce.com/llms.txt) without any additional setup required. This URL serves optimized content that better enables e-commerce AI discovery.

Our team at Aurora Commerce has carefully crafted the default content to showcase your store's content in the most AI-friendly way possible. Even better, as this emerging standard evolves and matures, we'll continuously update and enhance the default content to keep your store at the cutting edge of AI discovery, all happening seamlessly behind the scenes without requiring any action from you.

For most of our clients, simply using this default implementation is the recommended approach. It gives you all the benefits of LLMs.txt while our team handles the ongoing optimization and updates. Your store will automatically stay aligned with best practices as they develop in this rapidly evolving space.

Of course, we understand that some clients have unique needs and if you'd like complete control over your LLMs.txt content, you can easily create a custom version. If you wish to customize your LLMs.txt content, you can do so by creating a template file:

• Create a text file named llms.tpl.txt in your front-end templates folder.
• Place this file under the path: templates/your.templates.com/llms.tpl.txt
• Add your custom LLMs.txt content following the markdown format.

Note

When creating a custom template, you will be responsible for maintaining and updating your LLMs.txt content. We recommend only pursuing this option if you have specific requirements that aren't met by the default implementation and the time to stay on top of keeping it up to date.

With this implementation, you are getting the best of both worlds, automatic optimization with the flexibility to customize when needed. It's just one more way we're working to keep your store perfectly positioned for success in the age of AI shopping.

Best Practices for LLMs.txt

If you choose to customize your LLMs.txt, consider these best practices:

• Use clear, hierarchical organization for product categories.
• Include links to important policies (shipping, returns, etc.).
• Keep content concise and focused on what matters most to customers.
• Update content when making significant changes to your product catalog or policies.

Verifying Your LLMs.txt

To verify that your LLMs.txt is working properly:

• Navigate to https://yourdomain.com/llms.txt in your browser
• You should see a plain text file with markdown-formatted content
• Check that the content accurately represents your store's structure and offerings
