Adding and Enabling Filters
This article covers the creation of new filters based on product fields and attributes. You'll also be shown how to add snippets to a Facet.
Facets were recently renamed from "Sidebars" and so this article, and the Facet system, replaces the previously named "Sidebars" system.
Adding Filters from Fields
To add an existing product field as a new filter:
1. Navigate to the Products > Fields section of Aurora.
2. Edit the relevant product field that you would like to add as a filter, and set a Filter Abbreviation.

3. Navigate to the Merchandising > Facets section of Aurora.
4. The existing product field will now show as an available filter for all Facets. Enable the new filter to start using it (discussed below).
New product fields can be used to create additional filters for your Facets:
1. Create your new field in the Products > Fields section of Aurora. Ensure a Filter Abbreviation is specified.
2. Assign values to your products for the newly created product field in the Products > All Products > Edit Product > Fields section.
3. Navigate to the Merchandising > Facet section of Aurora.
4. The new product field will now show as an available filter for all Facets. Enable the new filter to start using it (discussed below).
An example product field would be: "Colour".
Filter and Attribute Abbreviations
Abbreviations are short and unique strings of text are used to identify the filter in the URL.
E.g. /b:brand
The "pr" filter abbreviation is reserved by Aurora for the price filter, this should not be used by any other field filters.
Adding Filters from Attributes
To add an existing attribute as a new filter:
1. Navigate to the Products > Attributes section of Aurora.
2. Edit the relevant attribute that you would like to add as a filter, and set an Attribute Abbreviation.

3. Navigate to the Merchandising > Facets section of Aurora.
4. The existing attribute will now show as an available filter for all Facets. Enable the new filter to start using it (discussed below).
New attributes can be used to create additional filters for your Facets:
1. Create your new attribute in the Products > Attributes section of Aurora. Ensure an Attribute Abbreviation is specified.
2. Create variations of your products for the newly created attribute in the Products > All Products > Edit Product > Attributes section.
3. Navigate to the Merchandising > Facets section of Aurora.
4. The new attribute will now show as an available filter for all Facets. Enable the new filter to start using it (discussed below).
An example attribute would be: "Size".
Adding Snippets
Add snippets to a Facet to include custom sections of content, images or HTML widgets.
Snippets can be created in the Content > Snippets section of Aurora.
To add a snippet to the side bar:
1. Search for the snippet you would like to add using the Add Snippet search box. Results will dynamically appear as you type.
2. Use the Search Filters to refine your search by title, content or internal description.
3. Once located, select the snippet you would like to add. Click the Enable Snippet button.
Snippets, like filters, can be positioned on a Facet using the move icon. They can also be enabled and disabled, as described below.
Enabling and Disabling Filters
You can enable and disable individual filters and snippets, for each Facet, by toggling the Enable/Disable button.
