Cross Sell, Up Sell and Related Lists

Learn more about the merchandising features within Aurora that can help you convince your customers to buy more.

This article provides an introduction to the three manual product lists available, their intended use, and how to add products to them.

Introduction

Using the Cross Sell, Up Sell, and Related tabs that are available when editing a product, you can create tailored lists of products that relate to the product being viewed. These lists could contain products that would be considered upgrades, or items that compliment the product currently being viewed.

🚧

As with most features in Aurora, your stores front-end templates will determine if and how these lists are displayed to customers. Your Digital Agency will be able to customise your templates to meet your requirements, and please contact them for further information.

Aurora offers 3 custom lists for relating products:

TypeDescriptionIntended Use
Cross SellProducts that can be purchased along with the current product, similar to a chocolate bar at the supermarket checkout.Product Details page

You may also want to display Cross Sell lists on the Basket, Order Completion page, and Despatch/Confirmation emails.
Up SellAlternative (generally more expensive) products that could be purchased instead of the item a customer is currently viewing.

For example, a customer could be looking at a pair of shoes for £50, where you present the Up Sell products, which highlight better shoes for £70.
Product Details page
RelatedRelated products are designed to show grouped products together, such as those that all share a common attribute, but you want to display as separate products.

The main reason for this would be products in different colours.
Product Details page

Each of the above lists will only appear if they contain at least one item that is live and in stock (or if the stock is 0, and the Action on Zero setting is set to “Leave available, and able to be purchased” or “Leave available, and can be pre-ordered”)

👍

You can choose to present these lists in your templates however you wish, though we would not recommend you label them as "Cross Sells", but rather as something else like "You may also want" or "We thought of you..."

Related Products

As Related products always link between the grouped products they always contain the item you are looking at. For example, if you are viewing a product called "Black Top" and this product has "Red Top" and "Blue Top" assigned to it as Related products, your list would look something like this:

  • Black Top
  • Red Top
  • Blue Top

Even though you are viewing the Black Top page, the Black Top will appear at the beginning of the list.

Don't need the product being viewed to display in your related list?

You can use Smarty logic in your templates to ignore the first option. Please contact your Digital Agency for more information.

Adding Products to Lists

Each of the Cross Sell, Upsell, and Related lists have their own tab for each product, which can be found on the Products > All Products> Edit Product page. Products can be added to each of these lists by first navigating to the respective list.

1. Enter the product name or reference into the top Product field. A popup box will appear as you type, from which you can select the product you would like to add.

2. Enter a value into the Order field to assign the product a position in the list.

3. Use the appropriate Add Product button to add that product to the list.

Don't forget to Save Changes.

Products can be reordered in a list by either dragging and dropping them or entering the new order into the Order field for each product.

Products can be removed from a list using the Remove icon.
