Categories
Product Categories are one of the key areas for your front-end. They can be used for landing pages, displaying all of your products and helping your customers find what they are looking for.
Order By, Items per Page and View Type
Aurora remembers your preference on the front-end when visiting a category. This means if you visit a category and change, for example, your Sort By, then refresh the page, it will still be as it was before. This can result in some confusion when you edit the back-end, then visit the front-end and it has not changed. Simply clear your sessions or open a new browser and try again to see the changes.
Ordering Products In a Category
Default Order By
- If a default order by is selected, this will be used and no further sorting fields are shown.
- If a default order by that has "business_rule_order" is selected, then further options are shown:
Management of Manually Merchandised or 'Pinned' products, Blends and 'First Order By' have all been moved to the Merchandising Rules section.
View Type
You may want to select whether the default view is a list or grid view. This option will only appear if within your templates folder both of the following files exist:
- products/listings-grid.tpl.html
- products/listings-list.tpl.html
Group Discounts
If you would like to have the products within any category be excluded from all User Group Discounts, you can use the "Prevent group discounts?" setting. By turning this on, any product associated with this category will ignore all Group Discounts that might normally be applied for the current user.
Merchandising
All Merchandising is now managed from the Merchandising Rules section, including:
- Manually Ordered/Merchandised/Pinned products
- Blends (formally called Cocktails)
- First Order By
Image Labels
Image Labels allow you to control what images should be used for the mouse-over effects on the front-end for any individual category listing page. By setting labels for the images of all your products, you can then select the relevant labels here to denote which image should be shown by default and then which should be used as the alternate on mouse-over.
Please Note:
- If a requested image label is found, it is used.
- If the Main requested image label isn't found, the first product image is used. (Even if the first product image is already being used for the second listing image.)
- If an Alternate requested image label isn't found, the second product image is used. (Even if the second product image is already being used for the first listing image.)
- If an Alternate requested image label isn't found, and only one product image exists, the first product image is used as a fallback.
The Image Label fields will not be displayed at all unless you have configured some Image Labels on the Product -> Edit page.
Also, this feature needs to be enabled in your templates before it will have any effect on your Live site. If you would like more information regarding this feature or a quote to have it enabled on your site, please contact your Aurora Commerce Account Manager.
Where have the Manual Product Ordering and Cocktail settings gone?
The application of all Merchandising methods is now exclusively controlled by the Merchandising Rules system.
